水溶的炔烴活性酯試劑適合為多種生物分子比如蛋白和多肽連接炔烴基團。氨基-DNA及其他氨基亦適用。因為天然蛋白并不包含炔烴，但通常包含氨基（賴氨酸），該試劑就相當于“轉換器”將天然氨基分子轉為炔烴。 使用該試劑可以使所有蛋白適合點擊化學。 該試劑是STP （sulfotetrafluorophenyl）酯。STP酯類似NHS酯，但擁有更強的親水性和水溶性。在不需要有機共溶劑單純的水溶液中也能很好的進行標記反應，是對蛋白進行修飾的*好選擇。
